Become an expert. Sure, you know your job, but doing your job doesn't deserve any rewards. In fact, that is what you are paid for. If you want to move up in the world, then you'll need to know more, do more and be more. Become an expert at your job and work on learning the next step up too. Don't flaunt it, of course, but demonstrate it to individuals when they need the help.

Talk to the boss. If you sit there and do your job day in and day out, to the boss, it looks like you are happy and content. But, if you want to be noticed and want to move up, you'll need to present that information to your boss. How is he supposed to know if you don't tell him?

Be a team player. No one likes the guy that is two steps from polishing the boss's shoes.
